Expert advice


S triking a balance between adult-directed learning and child-directed learning supports children to overcome challenges, and to develop skills and feel a sense of empowerment. In this video, Professor Nicole Rinehart describes the ways in which parents, educators and teachers can support the autonomy and capabilities of children. AllPlay Learn’s self-monitoring tool is introduced, with practical examples for application provided.

Speaker

Professor Nicole Rinehart (PhD, Monash University, 2000) is an international leader in neurodevelopmental disorders and practicing clinical psychologist specialising in Autism Spectrum Disorders and ADHD.  She has been at the forefront of international efforts to improve diagnosis and definition of childhood disorders, focussing on novel neuroscientific techniques. In 2013, Nicole established the Deakin Child Study Centre; founding AllPlay in 2014.
