About this resource

Loneliness can have significant effects on a child/teen’s wellbeing. Some young people are more likely to experience feelings of isolation or loneliness because they may look or act differently to other teens, or experience mental health challenges.

AllPlay Learn’s When I feel lonely at school includes:

  • information to support children/teens with understanding what the experience of loneliness may feel like
  • evidence-based strategies for how to manage if they are experiencing loneliness
  • common emotional reactions are acknowledged and normalised
  • a range of positive coping strategies such as activating social supports, engaging in self-care and challenging negative cognitions are described

About this version:
This story uses more detailed and abstract descriptions. It may be more suitable for secondary aged students with strong vocabulary skills, or a strong understanding of social situations.

About this version:
This story uses simpler and more concrete language and images. It may be more suitable for students who prefer concrete language, or less 'crowded' pages, such as some students with intellectual disability, autism, or specific learning disabilities.
