About the resource

This story has been designed to help children learn about school so they know what to expect and can learn positive ways to respond to new situations. As a teacher, parent or carer you can help a child by reading through the story. You could point out how the child’s school experience is different and similar to that in the story and come up with other positive ways to respond.

Audio version

This story is available as an audio story for children. This may be particularly helpful for children who are blind or low vision.

‘Add your own image’ version

Some students, including some students with autism or intellectual disability, may find it easier to relate to a story when it contains pictures from their own environment. This ‘add your own images’ story allows you to add photos from school (e.g. the child’s teacher, or classroom) before printing.
